The Best Blog I've Seen in a Long Time

For several years I have had a fascination with watercolor ( and have painted off and on, but always seeming to sputter out).  And for a couple of years now I have had an obsession with flyfishing.  This blog has captured both of these passions.

Really, Really, beautiful stuff.

Auto Draft

Schlappen Briminators

I sat down today and tied some flies for the first time in a long while.  I'm hosting a fly swap over at warmfly.com, so I figure I needed to get these done asap.  Getting lots of good looking flies in. Pretty fun.  These briminators are tied from a single schlappen feather - tail, dubbing and hackle.

Munger Place Progess

A while back I posted about a project my church has undertaken.  This weekend is our first Sunday at Munger Place.  It's a preview service, to straighten out the kinks, tweak systems, etc.  Here's what we still have to do this week:

  • Install FOH console (Avid SC48)

  • Install lighting console (ETC Element 60)

  • Focus lights

  • Tune PA

  • Hang Televisions

  • Install and test aviom systems

  • Test HD video systems

  • Install ProPresenter computer

  • Rehearsal with band

  • Lots of sweeping and dusting

It's a very tight schedule.  We've got a lot to do and could sure use your prayers.

Sunday Evening at the Youth Camp

I went out to my friend's youth camp last Sunday to help out with a fundraiser.  After setting up the PA system for a small country trio, and helping put the finishing touches on a video, I went to the swimming pond with my youngest son.  I have been on a cold streak for a while now, so it was very nice to catch a few.  I fished with a Briminator I tied, and a small black popper.  My son fished with a Royal Wulf. He caught a Crappie and a couple of Bluegill.  I caught a Largemouth and 3 Hybrid Green Sunfish.  We only fished about 40 minutes.  Sure was fun to catch a few fish for a change!  As an added bonus, there was a really beautiful sunset that evening.

Sunrise, Sunset

When I can, whenever I go fishing, I try to take a camera with me.  Aside from photographing fish, you never know what else you'll find interesting.  Lately, it's been less fish and more of, well . . . not fish.

Yesterday evening I went casting for a while in a local pond in Rockwall, Texas.  Not one hit on anything I threw.  There was a pretty spectacular sunset, though.  Then this morning I went back, and again - no fish.  But the sunrise was equally inspiring as last night's sunset.  Here are a few pictures and a video.  Enjoy.

What Happened to My Pond??

Well, I guess it's not MY pond.  But I have fished it quite a bit.  I took my daughter today to start teaching her how to fly cast.  I was shocked to see this.  I've heard that the pond has had a leak in the dam, and I guess they're fixing that leak.  I wonder if they'll re-stock the pond, and how long it will take for it to become a good fishery again?
